Ready for the next run….

Saturday’s run was the farthest I’ve run at one time…I think most of the group can say the same thing.  The run started later than our normal Saturday runs and I don’t know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.  I was pumped up for this run all morning.

11.3 miles is a long way…i’d be lying if I said it was a piece of cake, but I never felt at any point like giving up.  My hill training is working and except for the last long hill that lasted for roughly a mile (give or take), the hills on this run were not much of a battle for me.  I could tell that I could push through a hill with more power and energy than even just a week ago.  I’ll only get stronger in this area as all my short runs now consist of at least two really large hills.  I finished the run with a few aches and pains, but nothing that felt any different than tightness and exhaustion.

Overall I’m very proud of myself.  The last two years have been pretty sedentary for me as far as working out goes.  Physically, I’m probably one of the most out-of-shape runners in the group.  So, for me, starting this training thing roughly a month ago and to be able to run 11.3 miles feels awesome.  Obviously the training is working.  And at this time I know come marathon day, I’ll be ready.

I also owe the group a big thanks.  Without you all, I wouldn’t be doing this.  I may have thought about it (as I’ve done many times in my life), and I may have started it (as I’ve done many times in my life), but I would not have kept up with it (as I’ve not done many times in my life).  This time, however, is different.  It all goes back to the accountability thing Taylor mentioned before the first day of training.  If Saturday comes and I’m not ready, and I can’t keep up with the group or finish the run when everyone else can, then I’ve fallen short.   So everytime I train, I think about the next run….whether it be a short weekday run and I’m thinking about Saturday’s run or a Saturday’s run when I’m thinking about the Marathon.  I give every run my all, just to make the next run more successful.

Yeah, the ultimate goal from this training used to be to complete a marathon, but that is just a short-term goal.  For me, the ultimate goal is a lifestyle change.  The goal for me is to get into the best physical shape of my life and stay there.  The goal is to push myself everytime out and give it my all, because when I do that, no matter what my pace was, no matter what the overall time was, and no matter how many people finished in front of me, I know I’ve done the best I could do.  And it’s because of this that I know I’ll be ready for the next run!
